Jonathan Rossing PLACES 31ST AT Indianapolis 500 Festival MINI-MARATHON

Indianapolis, IN - Jonathan Rossing, a Ph.D. candidate in communication and culture at Indiana University, took 31st place at the Indianapolis 500 Festival Mini-Marathon on May 5th.  His time of 1:14:27 for 13.1 miles, an average pace of 5:41 per mile, was a personal record by nearly a minute.

“Three weeks ago, Jonathan averaged 5:40 per mile for 9.3 miles and in this race he averaged 5:41 per mile for 13.1 miles.  You don’t need a Ph.D. to know that’s a huge improvement in endurance,” said Coach Jason Karp, who has been coaching Jonathan since January, 2006.  “Based on his solid training, we both knew he was ready for something big.  I’m proud of him.”  Rossing’s next race will be the Soldier Field 10-Mile in Chicago on May 26th.

Over 30,000 runners competed in the Indianapolis 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, which includes running a lap of the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  It is the largest half-marathon and eighth largest running event in the U.S. For complete results of this year’s race, go to http://www.500festival.com/marathon/2007MiniMarathonResults.asp.
