JANNA
MITSOS PLACES FIRST AND SECOND AT DON MITCHELL ROOSEVELT MEMORIAL track and field meet
Dayton,
OH - Janna
Mitsos, a high school senior from Mokena, Illinois and member of REVO2LT Running Team™,
ran 11:06.10 to place 2nd in the pouring rain in the 3,200 meters at the Don
Mitchell Roosevelt Memorial
Track and Field Meet on Friday, May 1. On Saturday, she won the 1,600 meters
in a close race in 5:14.39. Both races were personal records. Her
performance in the 3,200 meters qualifies her for the Nike Outdoor Nationals,
the nation’s
premier high school track and field meet, to be held in Greensboro, North
Carolina June 18-20.
“Before the
3,200, we were on a thunderstorm delay for an hour just after I
finished my warm-up. Running the second mile in the pouring rain, I
was with the leader up until 600 meters to go,” said
Mitsos, who graduates from high school next month and
will begin her collegiate running career at
the University of New Mexico in the fall. “In
the 1,600, a girl came up from behind in the last 100
meters and I had to really dig deep to beat her.”
Mitsos’s coach, Dr. Jason Karp of RunCoachJason.com, was excited about her performances. “Janna’s workouts, which have been nearly all aerobic so far, have been very consistent. She’s so nonchalant about her training that I didn’t expect her to run two personal records so soon. I can’t wait to see what she does once we drop the volume and increase the intensity.”
