Lydiard Foundation Coaches Seminar
This
month, I’ll
be a guest speaker at the Lydiard
Foundation Coaches Seminar September
10-11 at the YWCA in downtown Boulder, Colorado.
The Lydiard
Foundation
is
dedicated
to preserving the legacy of the late distance running coach, Arthur
Lydiard. While staying true to the principles that have made this the
premier coaching method for the past 60 years, the foundation continually
consults with scientists and coaches world-wide to advance Lydiard training
into the 21st Century. For more information on the Lydiard Foundation,
go to http://www.lydiardfoundation.org.

Exercise
for a Better Sex Drive
In addition to the many documented health benefits of exercise, it also improves your sex drive. Studies published in Behaviour Research and Therapy and in Journal of Abnormal Psychology found that a single 20-minute bout of intense exercise immediately prior to viewing an erotic film significantly increased women’s physiological sexual arousal (measured by vaginal blood flow and vaginal pulse amplitude) in response to the erotic stimulus compared to when the subjects did not do any exercise prior to viewing the film.

Winning Racing Strategies
My
newest book, 101 Winning Racing Strategies, will be published in late 2011.
Here’s a preview:
Strategy #98: Commit to challenging yourself.
One
of the great things about racing is that it gives you the opportunity to
challenge yourself. There aren’t too many other situations or
environments in life in which you know going in that you’ll have such a
clear opportunity. Take advantage of that opportunity. Before your
race, commit to challenging yourself and use the race as a way to find out who
you really are.

Fartleks
are a great way to introduce yourself to speedwork. That’s
right—that funny-sounding word that makes high school runners giggle on the
first day of cross country practice can give you a chance to have fun with
your training, play with changes in speed, and even make you faster. Fartlek
Training,
my
article on the art of running fartleks, appears in the Fall, 2011 issue of Duke
